Honoring the Spiritual Space of Motherhood
Giving birth is a rite of passage and a wonderous event full of amazing transformations. Many post-birth experiences are challenging because mothers aren’t prepared or don’t plan for them. Often, women get a six-week check-up and an okay to return to regular activities without pausing to recognize that they’ve crossed a beautiful, life-changing threshold.
We want to celebrate your experience and honor it with you. We provide layers of support to pave the pathway before and after your new arrival. Also, we help you connect with your ancestral wisdom, helping you prepare for each transition through pregnancy and into the postpartum period. We believe that this commitment is one of the most effective ways of caring for mothers and future generations.
Support As You Prepare for Your New Baby
No matter if you are preparing for your first child or your third, childbirth can be blissful but equally overwhelming and exhausting. At Somatic Sole, we believe that supporting healthy and happy babies begins with supporting their parents. That’s why we offer classes and massage options to help new parents and their newborns.
For those who are pregnant, we offer the following class, and more will be coming soon.
- Optimal Fetal Positioning. We believe that babies are born when they are ready. And there’s not much we can do to speed up the time before delivery. However, we can help create the most optimal environment. Have you visited websites about spinning babies? If the information left your brain spinning, we’re here to help. At Somatic Sole, we use various methods to gently encourage your baby to find its optimal fetal position in the pelvis. During this class, your massage therapist (or partner) will guide you through various movements to accomplish this goal.
- Pregnancy Massage (also called prenatal massage). During pregnancy, hormone levels related to stress and relaxation can be altered with massage. We offer hands-on massage as well as barefoot prenatal massage. If you choose a barefoot pregnancy massage, you can work with your therapist on a floor mat (clothed and with no massage oil) or on a table (undressed with massage oil). Also, to maximize the nutrients and blood from you to your baby, we use a side-lying position along with cushions and supports.
Support After Your Newborn Arrives
You’ve gone through pregnancy, labor, and delivery and are ready to return home and start life with your newest addition. Your newborn’s first days home can be challenging and joyful as everyone adjusts. We are here to offer support to your family during your little one’s first weeks and months.
We offer the following massage options, and more will be coming soon.
- Infant Massage. According to research, there are many benefits of infant massage, some of which include strengthening the parent-child bond and attachment. During this massage session, you will practice gentle massage techniques on your newborn. Note that some babies experiencing digestive discomfort and colic may find infant massage soothing and stimulating. Also, premature babies and those with medical problems may respond well to infant massage.
And Remember …
Everyone’s experience of pregnancy and birth is unique. Plus, adjusting to the role of a parent can take time. And there’s no right way of doing it. We encourage our clients to seek support from those around them and take time to pamper themselves and their newborns. Your friends at Somatic Sole value your role as a parent and are here to help. That’s why we now offer additional services for embracing and supporting the spiritual time before and during pregnancy as well as after:
- Postpartum Doula
- Rituals
- Postpartum Cooking
