Body Wisdom: More than buzzwords

Buzzwords connect but also divide.

(Read in a wispy, breathy voice)

Embodied. Transformation. Capacity. Resilient. Resourced. Regulated. Breathwork. Nervous System. Fight or Flight.

I could use all of those terms. I know what they mean. I use them in my own life. And something I’ve noticed is that many people are sitting at the edge of their seat waiting to have an experience that will change what they currently feel. It makes sense. Because honestly, there’s a lot of things in the world that just doesn’t feel right, right now. And that’s the reason we need these courses right now.

I think it’s really important we don’t drown ourselves in a framework that still continues to keep us disconnected from our own wisdom.

There’s no one person that has the answers. Including me. In fact, the last several years have taught me, the more I think I know only shows me the less I actually know. That doesn’t mean I know nothing. I’ve really spent a lot of time learning to hear my wisdom and how to interpret it.

I can teach you how to hear your own wisdom. And, the more you hear your own body speaking to you, I would guess the more compassion you will cultivate for yourself and your community.

Now is the time for deeply connecting to our community and our bodies.

Yoga. Fitness. Stretching. Weight lifting. This diet or that. Sound baths. etc.. There is nothing that fits everyone.

We know that logically and yet we struggle to feel guided by our own intuition. We must look inward to navigate what we need. And that’s daunting because we’ve been told for so long that guidance lives outside of our self. I see a shift away from that. Almost as if there’s too much information to parse through and you can either ask someone to sift through it for you OR you can tune out the noise and listen to what your innate wisdom is actually telling you.

Building Community.

This concept very much intrigues me. I’ve revolutionized my relationship to individualism. I’ve found that I can’t be the only mom to my kids. I’ve cultivated a group of moms around me that love my kids.

I think there’s a dissonance around how to pour into your own cup and feel fulfilled while also supporting your community. If we’re already so taxed by the current pressure and demands, how can we add more by tending to our community? And what’s the difference between self-care and self-preservation? How can I know I’m tending to my own boundaries and leaving space for nuance? How can I find growth in being uncomfortable but still hold my boundaries?

There are a lot of questions and few places to ask them. I also see difficulty in people being comfortable in the waters of contemplation. We often have a question and want an answer. Many of these big topics like ‘building community’ do not have glaringly obvious answers. The answers arise slowly through the contemplations. We need a place to wonder and to be okay with not knowing right away.

Can you swim in the uncomfortable waters of not knowing an answer immediately? It’s challenging to do. And yet something that seems wildly important to practice in the current times we’re living in.
