Imagine this… you’re a first time parent. You’ve taken all the classes and read all of the books in preparation for labor and delivery of your precious baby.
The day finally comes, “Maybe this is it? Contractions? Pressure waves? Do I just need to pee?”
And you happen to have scheduled a massage (because it’s the first time you’ve been taking care of yourself on a new level–because it’s not just you residing in your body now). “Should I cancel? Try to waddle in? What if I gush fluid on the table?”
You decide to text me in a flurry of confusion and emotions–excited and unsure. I respond with calm and confidence, that I can come to you. I arrive and you welcome me into your home. You don’t apologize for the dog or the mess or the whatever you may be concerned with. The look you give me… it’s one I’ve seen and I’ve felt. Thrill that today may be the day your life forever changes with a little bit of nervous concern as well. All of these are normal.
We find a comfortable place for you to be in your comfortable home. You keep your clothes on and maybe you’re nestled in your own bed with your own pillow or on your couch with you beloved kitty.
And you finally rest into slumber. The rest that you so desperately need for the journey of labor and delivery of your baby. I leave you to soak up each moment of rest and wait patiently until you’re ready to call on me again. Maybe that’s during labor (that we’ve arranged prior) or after when the baby is here and your new positions of sleeping and feeding leave your body needing it’s own nourishment. I’ll be there for you.
This happened last week. It was the sweetest session. Every family I support stays and remains close to my heart. Being part of this very special time will always be inspiration for me.
You see, rest is an important component for the laboring process. Ideally, we would be training our bodies in this way before labor, just like we would train for any event. But if that’s not possible or maybe you’re just learning about this, that’s ok too. Resting between contractions is vital for the endurance needed. But it’s easy to feel unable to rest with excitement and concern. That’s where a gentle yet intentional touch could be all you need to achieve the natural birth you seek.
When you need support pre conception, pregnancy, birth, or post partum, I’m here for you.
Introducing: the sliding scale session
We notice the widening gap between what people can afford and what they need. We’re doing our best to meet everyone where they are while ensuring our families are taken care of as well.
This will only be available for 6 sessions per month and will be turned off after that. The sliding scale will be ‘pay what you can’ starting at $80.
However, we also recognize that this may not be enough, so we have also started to offer 30 min sessions of Hot Ashi for $45 to fill in any of the gaps of your care you may be missing. You’re welcome to schedule this stand alone appointment by itself or in addition to your regularly scheduled session.
All of these can be found under the Barefoot Massage tab in our scheduler. And of course, if these are still beyond what you can afford, please reach out to us to discuss. We want to see you receiving some kind of care. We also want to respect your privacy, anyone is welcome to schedule the Pay What You Can Session and it won’t be mentioned in the appointment.
