We’re closing our doors to protect the vulnerable in our community.
After much deliberation, contemplation, & conversation, it totally sucks but we have decided to close our doors until April 6th.
This decision has not come lightly as it effects so many people! And we’re getting conflicting advice from our mentors but essentially our professional boards are heavily suggesting we cease practicing for the time being. This has many concerns for small businesses like ours but morally and ethically, we must make a decision.
One of the biggest struggles with this entire ordeal, is we have no idea what is on the other side. Or how long this will effect us. Or what our new world will look like once we can go back to work. So many Americans are without jobs currently or underemployed. I foresee this deeply effecting our economy for quite some time. Owning a business always comes with unknowns and liabilities but no one knows what to do because we’ve never experienced something like this in the recent past.
You may wonder why some businesses are still open and some have closed. Somatic Sole resides in this in-between place. We are small enough to close and yet bigger than a solo-practice to just simply shut the door one day. I’ve been advised to wait until the official mandate to close but after diligently reading and listening to some of our governmental leaders, I’m not sure if that will happen in a timely matter so I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands. And I am currently more concerned about our fellow humans than I am about business. This is to also say, I cannot and will not judge or say something harsh toward another business because of their choice. It’s a hard one to make. Period.
Many of the area business are freaking out and worried about the future. I am doing my best to focus on the task at hand, take care of my kids (make sure we all survive quarantine together), and keep myself somehow surrounded in massage therapy. Many of you know, my life is massage..it is my peace just as much as it is yours. There is so much uncertainty and it’s not easy to deal with. Lean on each other in this time. Reach out in new & creative ways. I would also encourage you to return to us when the world returns to our new normal.

I’ve been trying to look toward the positives. We have been living moment to moment recently, this isn’t really the way I like to practice mindfulness but there’s more people ‘living in the moment’ than I’ve ever seen.
I can only hope this is an opportunity for all of us to slow down and reflect on what we truly want from our life and if something isn’t feeding that desire, we take this moment in time to readjust the course of our life.
This experience is testing our knowledge of what we need. Do you know how to meet your social needs? Touch needs? And can you find new ways to meet those needs?I’ve been trying to look toward the positives.
