Self care has become a buzz word that people drop from time to time. Something I’ve learned since becoming a mom to two young boys, my “me” time has become my most valuable thing. I crave it more and more and require time to rejuvenate in order to mother at my best. You don’t have to be a mom to desire and need self care. In our world, the work day is getting longer and more is being expected of us which is requiring us to look at the way we take care of ourselves. In fact, you don’t only need self-care, you deserve it. The world around you deserves to see you taking care of yourself. We tend to do something moreso when someone is relying on you. If you won’t take care of yourself for you, would you at least take care of yourself for those around you? Either intention produces a great outcome. As much as I would like to believe I can continually push my body and my mind, the fact is, we need to rest. We need to reset in order to function optimally. You may assume that I’m leading into how massage is a necessary tool for self-care and while I believe that, it’s not always accessible to everyone all of the time. We do our best to be accessible, both financially and literally (scheduling) but we know that’s not always possible.
As massage therapists, we are continually seeing our own lives as an experiment in self-care. We don’t just provide this lovely space for you and then go home and trash our bodies. That will not work. I’ve seen others try and they crash and burn. Instead, we focus on relaxation and connecting with our bodies as well. I’m currently writing this from my living room with incense burning, tea steeping, and my son sleeping. This is the perfect combination for me to create content for you and feel inspired to do so. As an employer, we strive to create an atmosphere where our staff feels compelled and supported to nurture and care for their bodies and their minds. Whole body health is an important factor for providing that space for you to relax. This is a full time job and a way of life for us. We can’t really step into a massage therapist role and then step out. It’s about living it daily.
