We’ve had a few people wonder, what is Ashiatsu? What is the difference between all of what you do. |
Ashiatsu is an old term to describe the type of massage that we primarily offer. We now call it Barefoot Massage. However, barefoot massage refers to any type of massage where the foot is the application tool. To distinguish when scheduling, we have labeled them:
Table Based Barefoot MassageMat Based Barefoot MassageTable Based Barefoot Massage is what you may know as Ashiatsu. Mat Based Barefoot Massage is on a mat on the floor and you are clothed. It is what you may know of as Thai Massage.
Why the change?
Because we want to be sensitive to the cultures these types of massage have originated. I want to be clear, that we are not practicing traditional anything. Everything we do is inspired by or may have flares of but they are not the same. We have a very “western” or anatomical approach to the type of massage we are practicing.
And at this point in my career, the best way to direct you to schedule what you want is to move you toward whether you want to be on the table or the floor. Whether you want massage oil or to remain clothed. Everything else that happens beyond that is a mash of all of my education and creativity and knowledge. We may do some range or motion movements on the table and we may do some compressions on the floor.
Every session is tailored to what you need that day and depends on what we are currently working on. You can even schedule both in one session.
I look forward to creating a space for you. Schedule now.
