The Roll Method: Rubber balls for self-massage & Proprioception

The Roll Method

Why am I always talking about these rubber balls? What makes them different? And why roll on a ball at all when I am the massage therapist?

I like to share with you what I find to be exceptional. I also tend to learn everything I can about the function of why something works. (My neurodivergency works to my advantage in some situations)

The Roll Method is using specific self-massage tools in between your massages.

The act of therapeutic touch will never go away and can never be replaced. Not by stones, massage guns, hot pillows, or massage balls. The social nervous system requires human touch to orient to safety and healing.

As I travel through my own healing journey, I have found applying pressure to be a way for me to feel where I am in space and time. It’s a way for feedback to tell me when I need to rest and when I need to move.

Have you ever asked yourself, “I need something, but I have no idea what it is?”

Rolling on a massage ball could give you enough input to figure out the answer to that question. Remember, the sensory system is your guide.

>>Take a moment<<
Put your hands on your shoulders.
Feel the contact from your hands to your skin or shirt
Say to yourself, “This is me.”
Now take your hands away and put them out in front of you saying, “This is not me.”
Return to this back and forth and add touching different parts of your body saying, “this is me. This is not me.”
>>Let me know how that goes!<<

The more practice we have with locating ourselves and creating a home within our body, the more we have access to that resource when we need it. Like in times of stress.

With this practice, we start to notice more about what we need. Do you know the difference between tension and tightness? Can you sense the difference between your body holding emotional stress or physical stress?

Using a Yoga Tune Up ball can help you practice these distinctions.

Not sure where to put a ball? And where? And probably Why? No worries, I got you.

I offer specific sessions that tailor the self-massage tools to exactly what you need. We discuss what will work best for you and how to incorporate them into your current lifestyle. Because let’s be real here, incorporating anything into our already FULL schedule feels like too much, right? I can assure you, we will find a way to make this work for you. You can also purchase the balls through my online store or when you come in for your appointment.

THe Roll Method is based on the work of Jill Miller and Yoga Tune Up balls. The application is called The Roll Method. She has such great information on her Instagram account. I’ve studied with her specifically along with many online and books she has published.

Let’s figure it out. Schedule here.
