Born and raised in St. Louis , MO, Susy knew from an early age she wanted a career in helping others achieve a higher quality life. As a child, Susy struggled with anxiety and depression. She realized she needed to find ways to cope and relieve these emotionally draining times, not only for herself but for others as well. When she was 14, she was diagnosed with Lordosis (excessive curve in low back) because of poor posture. This was her first major experience with the mind-body connection. This catapulted her interested in helping others feel their best as she knew many emotions were stored in our body and the result was often pain, discomfort, anxiety, and depression.
She first discovered her love for massage therapy while on a tour of the Healing Arts Center, where she later graduated from in 2008. It was by chance that she stumbled upon such a great place that encouraged what she was already in the process of unfolding. This experience was transformational for her and through this education, she became thirsty for more.
Also in 2008, Susy traveled to India volunteering to help CADIP. There, she helped paint and restore schools and to learn more about the Tibetan community in Exile. She was inspired and moved by the people she met as they traveled across the Himalayas to freely practice their culture knowing they may die or never return home. As she deepened her love for the healing arts and this ancient culture, she also studied Tibetan Acupressure and Tibetan meditation techniques.
Her continued interest in the body’s natural ability to heal combined with her experience in India, led her to the West-East Natural Healing school for Yoga teacher training in 2012. With this deeper knowledge of yoga anatomy and the way the body moves, she brings all of this wisdom to her massage session. Yoga’s focus on breathing and mindful stretching combined with therapeutic massage really feels like a complete treatment.
Susy’s massage style can be described as fluid and consisting of an array of modalities including Swedish, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, pregnancy massage, aromatherapy, & Tibetan Acupressure. Sara & Susy stayed in touch through the years after going through their initial massage training together. She was approached by Sara in 2015 to discover Ashiatsu. Susy had been experiencing some of the pain that comes with hands-on massage. She felt this was the answer to keep her living her passion. She received an Ashi massage and the next week drove to the nearest training facility. Her passion for massage was refreshed in a whole new way! Using feet combined with pressure from gravity suddenly made so much sense. Using feet to deliver a massage was a more effective and deeply relaxing experience for her client.
When she’s not guiding a yoga class or providing a relaxing massage, Susy loves to spend time exploring the beauty of Missouri’s rolling countryside. She’s an avid hiker and camper. If she’s not in the city, you could find her deep in the woods communing with our Great Mother Nature.
“I look forward to creating a relaxing space for you!” -Susy
