Receiving massage therapy during pregnancy is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness, including relieving many of the normal discomforts experienced. For example, backaches, neck pain, leg cramps, headaches, and edema (swelling). Pregnancy massage can reduce stress on weight-bearing joints, encourage blood and lymph circulation and relax nervous tension caused by hormonal changes. Not to mention, receiving a pregnancy massage is different than a traditional massage. You get to lay on your side all snuggled up with proper pillows and a warm blanket!
There is some controversy in the massage world on whether a woman can receive a therapeutic massage before 12 weeks. My philosophy is this: I will explain the reasons for both sides of the argument and you make the decision. I believe each one of us should be in charge of our own health. This is why I take this path. Your health should be your choice based on informed decisions. We will also review all health conditions and ensure you are at little to no risk at receiving a therapeutic massage at any point in your pregnancy.
It is my personal passion to work with pregnant women and the birthing process. I noticed when I was pregnant with my son, there was a lack of information– that didn’t involve fear. We have made the birth process medical. Sure, there are complications and creating a baby really is a miracle. BUT, birth is the most natural thing we, as a species, have been doing since the beginning of time! This is such a special time in a woman’s life. Creating life is sacred and should not go unnoticed. Pregnancy should be a time of celebration for the woman and her new baby. She should feel relaxed and rejuvenated for her body to create the perfect environment for the baby to grow and thrive! I also noticed some very key pieces of this that could be supported through massage therapy even after the birth. When I was home and learning to breastfeed my baby, I was exhausted and the strangest places ached and hurt. From looking down, I had such a neck pain. I have since learned about what is called Nursers Neck. From burping and patting and soothing the baby, my forearms were being used in a new and different way. My arms, neck, shoulders, and upper back craved some healing touch. These were just a few areas that led me to seeing there is a need for more post-baby support! I am dedicated to creating an affordable and convenient way for mamas to experience rest and rejuvenation before, during, and after having their baby.
